Fast forward 6 months of feast and famine as an inexperienced freelancer…
I discovered Dain Walker, (who is building one of the most outlandish branding agencies in existence: rivyl)
I found him on Instagram with his in-your-face, hypnotic, value-packed carousels on branding and marketing.
I fell in love with his content.
Basically, I bought Dain’s Instagram growth course and sent him a cold email to work at his agency as a copywriter
My cold email turned into a warm lead.
I interned at Rivyl for 6 months until Dain asked me to join his team full-time…
(all while helping one of my IRL friends, who turned out to be my first real client, take his already successful e-com brand even further).
Working at rivyl was a wild and fun rollercoaster with 1000-foot drops and 100-foot robotic magpies with a million loops all while the rollercoaster track was on fire.
We built brands from the ground up and then built skyscrapers on top

It all began early 2019.
I fell head over heels for this girl. She was one of my actual
true loves.
I won’t bore you with the lovey-dovey details…
All you need to know is: she broke my heart.
I made my word revolve around her.
Once my perfect world came burning down, I fell into a dark place.
I turned to disgusting amounts of junk food.
I stayed up till 6am playing video games to find myself waking up at 5pm feeling sluggish and down in the dumps.

I reached my breaking point...
I finally got sick and tired of being sick and tired.
I accepted everything and just said “f*ck it.”
“I’m gonna get my life together and work on myself.”
A fire ignited inside me. The AHA, eureka moment hit me.
The light bulb lit up over my head.
I realized how lost and dumb I was and how poorly I spent my time.
I knew things needed to change! But how???
While randomly surfing YouTube, I discovered the world of e-commerce & copywriting…
Basically, I learned about dropshipping and Amazon FBA and how successful brands could be earning well over $100,000/month in sales.
I decided I wanted to start an e-com biz by going the Amazon FBA route.
And so I did…
I invested my life savings (about $4,000) and started my own e-com brand on Halloween of 2019 while working part-time at Chick-fil-A.
I had no idea WTF I was doing, of course – so I invested in 2 Amazon FBA courses to help guide me and increase my chances of success.
I learned about copywriting while building my e-com brand
Building a brand is a f*ck ton of work.
Especially riding solo.
Anyway, I ordered 300 units up front to sell on Amazon.
I didn’t even know if my product (a cup turner) was going to sell.
I just knew the top cup turner brands on Amazon were making over $70,000/month — and I was banking on taking a thick slice of that pie.
My goal was consistent $10,000/months so I could quit my job and ride off into the sunset.
Fast forward 2 months → my cup turner listing is live on Amazon and it was time to start raking in the ca$h money!
Now, I wasn’t getting ANY sales.
At first…
I got my 1st sale in January 2020 and sold everything by May of 2020.

I was able to increase conversions from 2% to 8% literally just by changing up my copy, which is absolutely bonkers
Imagine… 8% conversion!
Although I sold all 300 of my cup turners…
My Amazon FBA biz venture was a total failure.
I dug myself into a $15,096.81 hole of debt in the process.
The revenue of my e-com biz was roughly $12,000 and my profit margin was basically non-existent.
-$15K is a sh*t ton for a 20-year-old working part-time at a fast-food joint.
It took me 1 year to pay off all my debt.
My copywriting journey followed suit after this first business venture
I studied copywriting religiously while working at Chick-fil-A and dabbled with the idea of becoming a freelance copywriter.
I knew copywriting was a high-income skill and invaluable in the world of marketing.
Once I paid off all my debt and built up a 6-month emergency fund, I quit working at Chick-fil-A.
I had no clients or portfolio lined up but I still decided to say f*ck it and dip to pursue freelance copywriting.
You’re supposed to take risks when you’re young, right?
Literally, everything that’s essential for ANY brand and business to survive and thrive
I happily worked at rivyl for 2 years, sharpening my arsenal of skills as a copywriter.
After long and careful self-reflection on my personal goals — it was time to fly the nest and pursue my own dreams and aspirations again.
